The Minor in Anticipatory Intelligence at Utah State University is the nation’s first undergraduate program in the field of Anticipatory Intelligence. This 12-credit minor is designed to be completed in the junior and/or senior year and is built to complement majors across STEM disciplines, social sciences, humanities, and the arts. The Minor in Anticipatory Intelligence is structured to equip undergraduates with actionable hard and soft skills that have direct application into a wide range of professional tracks. Courses are taught at the 5000-level to prepare undergraduates to excel in graduate study and the professional workforce.

Undergraduates pursuing the Minor in Anticipatory Intelligence have the opportunity to gain a working understanding of the international, governmental, private sector, and individual security issues emerging across an expansive disciplinary spectrum that are affecting and will impact their major field of study and future profession. Anticipatory Intelligence courses train students to be active participants in cross-disciplinary and cross-domain collaboration and equip them to connect their primary disciplinary expertise to real-world problem solving on emergent security issues. The Minor in Anticipatory Intelligence offers strong value-added benefits for undergraduates interested in a wide range of future professions in the private sector, public service, nonprofit work, and academia.

Completion of the CAI undergraduate minor is contingent on fulfillment of the following criteria:

completion of 6 credits of required core courses,
completion of 6 credits of elective courses in anticipatory intelligence,
a “C” grade or better in all courses.
Students seeking to pursue the Minor in Anticipatory Intelligence must apply for and be accepted into the program. The application package is available on the program website, cai.usu.edu, and includes an application form with the name and contact information of a professor who can refer the student (a formal letter of recommendation is not required), a resume/CV, and cover letter.

In order to apply, applicants must:

be Juniors or Seniors by the start of the program
have a strong academic record (GPA 3.0+)

Additional Information

A grade of C or better is required for all coursework taken to fulfill minor requirements.

and one of the following:

CAI 5200 - Threats and Resilience in the Knowledge Century 3 credit(s)

Elective Courses (6 credits)

Students must complete 6 credits of approved elective courses. Any CAI-prefix course qualifies as an accepted elective. Courses from other departments that are offered in partnership with the Anticipatory Intelligence program may be individually approved as electives by a CAI academic advisor. In exceptional circumstances, a student may petition to use up to 3-6 credits of upper-division major courses directly relevant to the Anticipatory Intelligence curriculum as elective credits (petition must be approved by a CAI academic advisor).
