Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services

School of Teacher Education and Leadership

The Master of Education (MEd) in Curriculum and Instruction program is designed for persons who desire to engage in graduate studies that will help them improve their competencies as educators. The MEd coursework degree (Professional/Plan C) program is the most pursued degree option and is available for students both at the Logan campus and at Statewide campuses. The basic elements of the MEd coursework option include completion of 30 credits in an approved program of study. All courses require a grade of C or better and students must maintain an overall GPA of 3. 0 or higher.

At the conclusion of the program, each student must complete/submit the following:

  • exit interview
  • exit survey

The MEd project (Plan B) program is a research-oriented degree with a focus on improving the instructional skills of the candidate. The program requires a minimum of 30 credits in an approved program of study. Each MEd project student is expected to develop a master’s creative project related to their area of concentration and designed to achieve professional goals. The MEd project option requires a strong relationship with a major professor and a three-person faculty committee responsible to provide formal supervision and approval for the culminating project.

For candidates whose long-range goals include the pursuit of a doctoral degree, the Master of Science (Plan A) program may be a better choice to acquire research skills.

This program does not necessarily lead to a recommendation for teaching licensure from USU. Licensure is obtained directly from the Utah State Board of Education.
