Full-time Status
Undergraduate Full-time Status
The minimum registration load for a full-time undergraduate student is 12 credits. Students who desire to graduate in four years (eight semesters) must average a semester load of at least 15 credits per semester.
Student Body Offices
To be eligible for student body offices, students from the Logan Campus and USU Eastern Service Region, must be carrying a minimum of 12 credits per semester, or be a fully matriculated student in the School of Graduate Studies taking at least 3 credits during their entire term of office. For the remaining Statewide Service Regions, students must be carrying a minimum of 6 credits per semester as an undergraduate, or be a fully matriculated student in the School of Graduate Studies taking at least 3 credits during their entire term of office. Students with a scholarship should refer to their official scholarship acceptance to understand credit requirements.
Veterans/GI Bill®
Veterans and students eligible for a veteran’s educational allowance are required to be matriculated and registered for full-time status; 12 or more credits (for undergraduate students), and nine or more credits (for graduate students) or meet Graduate full-time Status (listed below) to qualify for full educational benefits. Students registered for less than 12 credits (full-time) should contact the Veterans Resource Office to determine if they are eligible for partial benefits.
Graduate Full-time Status
A full-time matriculated graduate student must be one of the following:
- Registered for 9 or more graduate credits; or
- Registered for 6 or more graduate credits if employed as a graduate assistant for 15 hours or more per week or;
- Registered for 3 graduate credits* and meeting one of the following:
- All required coursework completed and only the research component of the degree remaining or;
- The semester of final thesis or dissertation defense or;
- The last semester of coursework required on the student’s Program of Study for non-thesis students.
*Students registered for 3 credits must have an approved Program of Study and the Full-Time at 3 Credit form.
