Students are expected to comply with their judicial obligations, including, for example, jury duty, responding to a subpoena to appear as a witness at a trial, or deposition. When a judicial obligation arises and performance of that obligation interferes with course participation, the obligated student must inform their course instructors at least one week prior to the date of the judicial obligation.
If, after timely notice to the instructor, fulfillment of a judicial obligation results in a student being unable to complete course requirements by the end of the semester of enrollment, then the University will recognize such circumstances as an “extenuating circumstance” and completion of course requirements may be fulfilled in keeping with the terms, standards, and process set forth in the Incomplete Grade section of USU’s Student Records academic policy.
