Utah State University offers Spanish, French, German, Russian, Chinese, and Japanese placement tests. You must be a USU student with an A-number to take this test. You need to take these tests to determine what classes you can register for. Where basic skills in a language have been acquired by means other than college courses, up to 16 lower-division credits may be earned by special examination. To purchase the credits, you must be a registered student and taking classes at USU.
Students with skills in a language other than those offered by the department may earn up to 16 pass/fail credits by successfully performing a BYU Flats test given in the Department of World Languages and Cultures.
Students with skills in a language offered by the Department of World Languages and Cultures may earn credit by successfully performing on an examination or by completing an upper-division (3000-level or above) language course at Utah State University with a grade of B or better.
