The number of credits required for academic credentials are as follows:
Certificate of Proficiency
Requires 16 to 29 semester credit hours.
Institutional Certificate of Proficiency
Less than 30 semester credit hours.
Certificate of Completion
A minimum of 30 semester credit hours and typically does not exceed 33 semester credit hours.
Associate of Applied Science
A minimum of 63 and a maximum of 69 semester credits are required.
Associate of Science and Associate of Arts
A minimum of 60 semester credits are required.
Specialized Associate’s Degrees
A minimum of 68 and a maximum of 85 semester credit hours.
Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts (BA), and Bachelor of Applied Science
A minimum of 120 and a maximum of 126 semester credits are required.
Bachelor of Applied Studies
A minimum of 90 credits.
Post-baccalaureate Certificate
Less than 30 semester credit hours.
Master’s Degrees
The minimum requirement for a master’s degree is 30 semester credits. Programs or departments may have higher credit requirements for some master’s degrees.
Post-master’s Certificate
Less than 30 semester credit hours.
Doctoral Degrees
The minimum requirement for a doctoral degree is 30 approved semester credits beyond a master’s degree, or 60 approved graduate semester credits beyond a bachelor’s degree. Programs or departments may have higher credit requirements for some doctoral degrees.
A minimum of 12 dissertation credits is required for a post-master’s doctorate and a minimum of 18 for a no-master’s doctorate. The semesters during which a student registers for dissertation credit should correspond as closely as possible to the semesters in which the dissertation work is done and faculty supervision is provided.
