Welcome to the Utah State University Catalog

This edition of the Utah State University (“USU”) Catalog supersedes any previous edition and is exclusively available online.

USU endeavors to provide accurate and up to date information in the USU Catalog but reserves the right to make changes at any time as determined by USU administration without prior notice to students, faculty, or staff. Changes may include updates to the requirements of existing academic programs or courses, the discontinuance or addition of academic programs or courses, changes to course instructors, and all other aspects of USU’s academic programing, policies, and practices. Any such changes will become effective at the discretion of USU administration and will be made in writing.

The USU Catalog contains specific information and requirements relating to USU’s academic programs of study (including undergraduate or graduate degrees, majors, minors, certificates, etc.). Students are expected to complete program requirements as listed in the catalog that corresponds to the semester in which they are matriculated into their academic program. If a student changes their academic program, then the student will be held to the catalog requirements for the semester in which they matriculated into the new program. Students are encouraged to regularly review the catalog corresponding to their matriculation date.

The USU Catalog also serves as a repository of various academic policies and practices. Additional policies, practices, and procedures applicable to students may be found, inter alia, in the Code of Policies and Procedures for Students at Utah State University (“Student Code”), the Faculty Code, and the USU Policy Library (https://www.usu.edu/policies/). Some departments and programs publish program-specific policy manuals or student handbooks. These academic program publications are designed to help students navigate program requirements and expectations and serve as supporting documents to the USU Catalog. Students are encouraged to review and understand the academic policies and practices contained in the USU Catalog as well as any applicable program-specific publications and will be held responsible for complying with the same.

If an ambiguity or inconsistency is identified among USU’s various sources of policies, practices, procedures, and program requirements, it shall be resolved by the responsible USU administrator(s).

The USU Catalog does not, nor is it intended to, create a contractual relationship between USU and its students. Rather, the USU Catalog is a compilation of materials designed to provide USU students with guidance and understanding of academic program expectations and requirements and associated academic policies and practices.
