Changes in Registration: Dropping, Withdrawing, and Late Semester Requests

Dropping

Students may add or drop courses in accordance with the posted deadlines on the Registration Calendar . Continuing students who drop all their courses before the Last Day to Add/Drop Classes deadline, which is 20 percent of the course, do not need to reapply for admission if the student re-enrolls within three years of the last semester of attendance. New incoming undergraduate students who drop all their courses before the Last Day to Add/Drop Classes deadline, which is 20 percent of the course, must defer their admission with the Admissions Office. Matriculated graduate students must contact the School of Graduate Studies.

All students who have graduated or have been suspended from Utah State University (USU) must reapply for admission.

Undergraduate students who drop all courses are encouraged to submit a Notification of Leave . International students who drop all courses must contact the Office of Global Engagement. Matriculated graduate students who drop all courses are encouraged to contact the School of Graduate Studies.

If a student drops before the Last Day to Add/Drop Classes deadline, which is 20 percent of the course, their USU transcript will not show any indication of participation of the course and may be eligible for a tuition refund.

Withdrawing

Students who withdraw from a course after the Last Day to Add/Drop Classes deadline, which is 20 percent of the course, and before the Last Day to Withdraw from Classes deadline, which is 60 percent of the course, the action is deemed a withdrawal. A ‘W’ grade notation will be listed on the transcript which will indicate the registration status of the course as ‘withdrawn’. This will be permanently affixed to the student transcript for each course withdrawal. Tuition is not refunded for a withdrawn course.

Undergraduate students who withdraw from all courses after the Last Day to Add/Drop Classes deadline, which is 20 percent of the course, and before the Last Day to Withdraw deadline, which is 60 percent of the course, do not need to reapply for admission if the student re-enrolls within three years of the last semester of attendance. Matriculated graduate students must contact the School of Graduate Studies.

Late Semester Request

After the Last Day to Withdraw deadline, which is 60 percent of the course, registration adjustments are not approved, except for extenuating circumstances. Students will receive a final grade based on the work completed in the course. The final grade will be included on the student transcript. Students with extenuating circumstances may file a request for Academic Record Adjustment   (ARA) in accordance with the Academic Record Adjustment  policy.
