MLT 2430 - Clinical Chemistry I 3 credits
Covers the theory and performance of the basic concepts of Clinical Chemistry laboratory procedures. Analysis of body fluids (blood, urine, and spinal fluid) for electrolytes, carbohydrates, pH, bilirubin, protein, non-protein nitrogen, and enzymes will be performed in the laboratory. Reasons for increased or decreased levels of these chemicals will be discussed in relation to diseases such as diabetes, jaundice, nephritis, muscular dystrophy, cardiovascular disorders, and others. Use of laboratory instrumentation, quality control, and interpretation and presentation of results will be taught.
Prerequisite/Restriction: Successful completion (C or better grade) of courses included in the first year of the MLT program or instructor permission
