Program Description
The Department of Aviation and Technical Education offers a Certificate of Proficiency in Digital Design. The certificate program is available at the following locations: Price, Blanding, Moab, Beaver, Milford, Panguitch, Nephi, Kanab, Delta, Junction, Ephraim, Richfield and Bicknell. The Certificate of Proficiency in Digital Design is a 17 credit hour stand-alone credential that will contribute to the elective course requirements for several existing business-related Certificates of Completion as well as the Associate of Applied Science General Technology degree with a General Business emphasis. The Certificate of Proficiency will meet many of the requirements for USU’s IT Support and Web Development AAS degree. In addition to qualifying students for entry-level design jobs, a Digital Design Certificate of Proficiency will build momentum to facilitate student transitions and support student efforts to earn certificate and associate degree credentials.
Digital design is a growing specialty in the field of graphic design. Digital design students will learn interactive website design, digital video production, graphics and communication technologies, as well as overall layout and production design for advertisements, brochures, magazines and corporate reports. The Certificate of Proficiency will provide students with the initial tools to enhance business marketing through digital equipment and software.
IT skills in greatest demand in the state include JavaScript, LINUX, UNIX, C++, website development and HTML—all of which are utilized in the Digital Design Certificate of Proficiency. In just one or two semesters, students will have marketable skills to help them gain employment. Completion of the Digital Design Certificate of Proficiency will create pathways for additional education and employment opportunities.
