Physical Education Coaching - Minor

Professional Development

This minor requires a 2.75 overall GPA or higher for admission. Students must also have a 2.75 overall GPA to graduate with this minor. Students who intend to use this as a teaching minor must have Cs or better in all content courses.

Skill Development - select 3 courses (3 credits)

KIN 2100 - Skills 1 (Swimming, Volleyball, Football) 1
KIN 2200 - Skills 2 (Lifetime Activities) 1
KIN 2300 - Skills 3 (Softball, Basketball, Soccer) 1
KIN 2400 - Skills 4 (Tennis, Badminton, Track and Field) 1
KIN 2500 - Skills 5 (Dance Activities) 1
OR advisor approved PE dance class

Required Prerequisites (8-13 credits)

HEAL 1500 - Anatomy and Physiology (BLS) 3
or both
BIOL 2320 - Human Anatomy 4 and
BIOL 2420 - Human Physiology 4
HEP 2000 or First Aid and CPR Certification
Additional required core courses
KIN 3000 - Principles of Fitness 3

Professional Foundation (10 credits)

KIN 2050 - Sport Rules and Regulations of the Utah High School Athletic Association 1
Please note: Students who have elected to take HEAL 1500 will need an advisor course override for KIN 4100 .
KIN 4100 - Exercise Physiology 4
KIN 4350 - Administration and Classroom Management of Physical Education 2
KIN 4500 - Motivational Strategies for Physical Education and Coaching 3

Secondary Teacher Education Preparation Framework (required for teacher licensure) (7 credits)

Students who are seeking teacher licensure and want to add the Physical Education Coaching minor must have an overall GPA of 3.0 to apply to the STEP program. They are also required to take the additional classes listed below.
