Anticipatory Intelligence - Minor

College of Humanities and Social Sciences

The Minor in Anticipatory Intelligence is designed to offer undergraduate students across multiple fields a sophisticated, cross-disciplinary grasp of the security concerns that are increasingly affecting their own disciplinary field and industry as a result of emerging technology and a changing climate. The goal of this minor program is to provide students with a refined perspective on traditional national security issues, growing private sector worries, and evolving technological realities in order to prepare them to be strategic thinkers in both the public and private sectors.

This minor prepares undergraduate students to be active voices in their own future professions with the ability to anticipate emergent security concerns beyond the training and focus of current industry leaders. Students are equipped to understand the progressively interconnected fate of the public and private sector in national and private security issues and help build resilience against emergent threats or unintended consequences of advancing technology and climate change.

Students seeking to complete the Minor in Anticipatory Intelligence must apply for and be accepted into the program. The application package is available on the program website, cai.usu.edu, and comprises the student’s transcript, resume/CV, letter of intent, and the name and contact information of a professor who can refer the student (a formal letter of recommendation is not required). Once matriculated within the program, students must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours: 6 credits of required courses and 6 credits of approved elective courses.

Elective Courses (6 credits)

Students must complete at least two approved elective courses. Any CAI-prefix course qualifies as an accepted elective. Courses from other departments that are offered in partnership with the Anticipatory Intelligence program can be approved as electives by a CAI academic advisor. In exceptional circumstances, a student may petition to use up to 3-6 credits of upper-division major courses directly relevant to the Anticipatory Intelligence curriculum as elective credits (petition must be approved by a CAI academic advisor).
