Center for Intersectional Gender Studies and Research

The Intersectional Gender Studies (IGS) Minor offers students breadth and depth training in the interdisciplinary field of gender studies. This program will prepare students to think critically about social inequality at the intersection of race, ethnicity, social class, gender identity and expression and sexual identity. Students completing the minor will have the opportunity to take courses across a range of disciplines including anthropology, English, history, sociology, political science, psychology, education and biology. 

To complete the undergraduate minor, students must complete 18 credits of coursework, including three required core courses and one course from three of the four thematic clusters: (1) Race, Ethnicity & Indigenous Studies; (2) Gender, Sexuality & the Body; (3) Global and Transnational Issues; and (4) Science, Technology and the Environment. Courses within each cluster are drawn from a range of disciplines including history, religious studies, sociology, political science and environmental studies.

The minor is available to all majors. A grade of C is required for all courses taken to meet the requirements of the minor. To graduate with an IGS minor, students must have a 2.5 GPA.
