Admission to Music Minor Programs

Students wishing to add the Basic Music minor should make an appointment with Cary Youmans. At least one-half of the credits taken for the Basic Music minor must be taken at Utah State University.

Basic Music Minor Requirements

• A grade of C- or better is required in all courses taken for the minor.
• A GPA of at least 2.5 is required in minor coursework.
• No more than 10 credits may be taken on a pass/fail basis. Individual instruction courses may not be taken on a pass/fail basis. 

Basic Music Minor (21 credits)

• MUSC 1010 - Introduction to Music (BCA) 3
• MUSC 1100 - Fundamentals of Music for Non-Music Majors (BCA) 3
• MUSC 1480 - Individual Piano Instruction for Nonmusic Majors 1-2 (1 credit)
• Large or Small Ensemble 4
• Individual Instruction (nonmajor) 4

• 
  Select 2 courses (6 credits) from the following options:

• MUSC 3010 - Masterpieces of Music (DHA) 3
• MUSC 3020 - History of Jazz (DHA) 3 (fulfills the DHA requirement)
• MUSC 3030 - Rock and Roll-Catalyst for Social Change (DHA/DSS) 3
