Department of Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education

Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology

Utah State University’s speech-language pathology program results in a Master’s of Arts (MA) or Master’s of Science (MS) in Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education with a specialization in Speech-Language Pathology. This post-baccalaureate degree is part of the Western Regional Graduate Exchange program (WRGP). The program in speech-language pathology is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Students graduate prepared for employment in educational and healthcare settings and eligible for national certification and state licensure.

The two-year program consists of 55-58 credit hours across six semesters of full-time academic and clinical study beginning with a summer semester. Students complete a Plan B thesis project or Plan C comprehensive exam. Students must take the ASHA national exam (Educational Testing Service-Praxis test) and notify the department of Praxis results to graduate. The degree is offered in Campus and Outreach tracks.

To be accepted in the master’s degree program, students must have a bachelor’s degree in Communicative Disorders or the equivalent undergraduate prerequisite courses from USU or another regionally accredited university program.  Admission is on a competitive basis.
