History Teaching - Minor

Department of History

A grade of or better must be earned in all history courses used for the minor. Minor requirements may not be taken for a pass/fail grade. To graduate with a history teaching minor, students must have a 2.75 minor GPA.

History Teaching Minor (30 credits)


Every student must complete ONE of the following courses in World Perspectives:

HIST 1700  does not count toward this requirement. Students may count up to 12 credits of 1000-level and 2000-level coursework toward their minors.

Upper-Division Electives (21 credits)


Students should complete their remaining 21 credits by taking 3000- and 4000-level history courses for a total of 30 credits in the history teaching minor.

No more than 3 credits of HIST 4930  can be applied to the history teaching minor.

Note: This minor may only be completed in conjunction with the Secondary Teacher Education Program (STEP). For licensure in the state of Utah, students must successfully pass a PRAXIS exam in the content area in addition to the coursework listed here.
