The Community Based Agricultural Education Emphasis prepares students for outreach and education in non-formal and adult education settings. Students in this emphasis area will develop a diverse background in agriculture, highlighting leadership, human relations, communication, analytical reasoning, critical thinking, effective writing and team work.
In addition to courses in agricultural education, the curriculum includes courses in technical agriculture areas, including agricultural economics; agricultural mechanization; animal, dairy, and veterinary sciences; plant and soil science; and natural resources. Additional courses in non-formal education teaching methods, volunteer programs, community programming and evaluation, and youth development round out this emphasis area.
Students in this emphasis may have the opportunity to engage in an internship in Community Based Agricultural education starting their junior year with an agricultural business, public or private agency, commodity organization or extension office.
