Chemistry Teaching - Minor

Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry

This minor prepares students for a Level 1 Chemistry Teaching Endorsement in the state of Utah. For endorsement in the state of Utah, students must also complete the courses for the Science 6-8 Core. If you are interested in receiving a Level 2 Chemistry Endorsement, please schedule an appointment with the Chemistry & Biochemistry department advisor for additional requirements. In addition to required courses, 3-4 additional credits in Chemistry prefix courses, as approved by the department, are required.

  • No CHEM prefix course may be applied toward a teaching minor in chemistry with an earned grade of less than C.
  • No CHEM prefix course may be repeated more than one time to improve the grade to a C or better.
  • 3.0 overall GPA is required for the Chemistry Teaching Minor.
  • Enrollment in the Secondary Teacher Education Program with a teaching major is required to receive this minor.

This minor requires 25-27 credits to complete.

This program typically leads to licensure and was designed to meet licensing qualifications in the state of Utah. If students wish to work in another state within the United States, they should review the qualifications for that state and the Education Licensure Compliance Table provided by School of Teacher Education and Leadership.
