Program
The program is designed for students to begin with 2 courses fall semester, continue with 2 courses spring semester, and complete all requirements by the end of summer semester. Or students may take 2 years to complete the program by taking 1 course per semester. A practicum experience, which involves in-school observations throughout the school year is a major component in the program. The program consists of six courses for a total of eighteen credits. A minimum of fifteen of the eighteen required credits must be taken through the Department of Instructional Technology & Learning Sciences at Utah State University for a departmental recommendation to the Utah State Board of Education for endorsement. But students may apply, and be granted, the library media endorsement without a departmental recommendation. The SLMA courses are web broadcast on Tuesday nights each semester, with additional materials and assignment online through Canvas.

Completion of the coursework does not automatically guarantee a recommendation by the Instructional Technology & Learning Sciences Department to the Utah State Office of Education. A recommendation for the library media K-12 endorsement will be made when the student has:
- Approval of the practicum advisor
- Completed the program courses with a 3.0 GPA or higher
- Demonstrated competency in all coursework
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills to work effectively with students and teachers
