College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences

Department of Technology, Design and Technical Education

The School of Applied Sciences, Technology, and Education offers a Certificate of Proficiency in Professional Bookkeeping. The certificate program is available at the following locations: Price, Blanding, and Moab. The Certificate of Proficiency in Professional Bookkeeping is a 17-credit hour stand-alone credential that builds upon the requirements for a certificate of completion and/or an associate of applied science degree such as IT Support & Web Development or General Technology.

The Professional Bookkeeping Certificate of Proficiency is designed to help students prepare for national tests administered by the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers (AIPB). Part of AIPB’s mission is to certify bookkeepers who meet national standards and help them receive recognition as bookkeepers and accounting professionals. Students who complete the certificate will be prepared to help a small business with business accounting, tax filing, general financial management, and budget tracking.

The certificate of proficiency offers accelerated entrance to the job market and a short-term credential that students can build on to access more advanced jobs and higher wages. The certification will be essential for businesses in regions of the state with a diverse tourism, travel, and recreation industry.

The Certificate of Proficiency will provide independent, industry-recognized certification and a stackable credential toward a one-year Certificate of Completion in Accounting Practices. Credits earned in the certificate program(s) will meet some requirements for existing AAS/AB degrees:

·         AAS, IT Support & Web Development

·         AAS, General Technology, General Business emphasis

·         AB, Associate of Business
