• Current and admitted students should meet with an advisor to co-create and update their 4-year student-specific Degree Works plan.

Program Information

USU admits up to 30 students once a twice per year into the Nursing BSN program. Applications are available on the Department of Nursing website and will be submitted online. Application dates are as follows:

• Fall semester admission: January 1 to February 15
• Spring semester admission: July 1 to August 15

Applicants must complete the following prior to acceptance into the program:

1. Complete all application prerequisites with a grade of B- or better prior to application submission:
   1. BIOL 2060: Elementary Microbiology  
   2. BIOL 2320: Human Anatomy  
   3. BIOL 2420: Human Physiology  - must be completed within 5 years of entrance into the BSN program.
   4. CHEM 1110: General Chemistry I (BPS)  
   5. HDFS 1500: Human Development Across the Lifespan (BSS)  
   6. STAT 1040: Introduction to Statistics (QL) , STAT 1045: Introduction to Statistics with Elements of Algebra (QL) , or higher-level statistics.
2. Complete the following prerequisites by the end of your application semester with a grade of B- or better:

• For fall entry, complete these courses by the end of spring semester
• For spring entry, complete these courses by the end of summer semester:

1. CHEM 1120: General Chemistry II (BPS)  
2. CHEM 1125: General Chemistry II Laboratory  
3. NDFS 1020: Science and Application of Human Nutrition (BLS)  
4. NURS 2500: Pathophysiology for Nursing  / BIOL 2520 Pathophysiology  

1. Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
2. Successful completion (75% or better) on the HESI A2 exam. Applicants are allowed two attempts per application cycle. Two weeks in between attempts is required.
3. Submit all required application materials, resume (template provided), HESI A2 exam result, and application fee receipt. After application is submitted, students will receive information about the writing assignment requirement.
4. A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant (MA) certification or degree is required for entrance to the BSN program.
5. A grade of B- or better is required in all prerequisite courses. Courses may not be taken on a pass/fail basis. Applicants who have completed prerequisite courses with more than three attempts without achieving a grade of B- or better will not be considered for admission. AP credit is pass/fail. See your advisor for details of approved prerequisite AP course credit.
