Objectives
The Full-Time and Professional Master of Human Resources (MHR) programs prepare students to take strategic roles assisting organizations in attracting, retaining, developing, and mobilizing talent at all levels. Students receive training in a variety of subjects, including talent acquisition and retention, leadership development, compensation and benefits, organizational effectiveness, employment law, HR analytics, project management, negotiation, and strategy. Students in the three-semester full-time campus program also complete a three-month internship and an international experience and may complete an MBA degree in one additional semester. For working professionals, the Professional program can be completed in four or six semesters. It is delivered using a blend of live, technology enhanced delivery and online instruction.
Degree Verification
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university or a similarly recognized international university is required for admission to and completion of a graduate program.
Applicants are required to have strong written and oral communication skills.
Western Regional Graduate Program
The program’s designation as a Western Regional Graduate Program (WRGP) means that residents of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming are eligible for in-state tuition.
Degree Requirements
Students are responsible for meeting all degree requirements and to be aware of these requirements. The programs require 36 to 38 credits. Students must also complete the following business acumen: ACCT 2010 or ACCT 2020 , FIN 3200 , MSLE 3500 , or their equivalents and Excel.
Course Number Acceptability
The Program of Study for a master’s degree or a doctoral degree, if the student has a master’s degree, must include at least 15 semester credits at the level of 6000 or above.
Credits in the following areas are not acceptable in a degree program: foreign languages (unless included in an approved Program of Study), continuing graduate advisement, individual home study, military science, and courses numbered below 3000.
A master’s degree must be completed within six years of entering the degree program. Additional time may be requested by the student’s committee and submitted to the Vice Provost of Graduate Studies for review.
USU Residency Requirement
At least 24-semester credits for a master’s degree must be from a committee-approved and a School of Graduate Studies-approved Program of Study from Utah State University.
Approval of academic forms is required for master’s students by the School of Graduate Studies.
A course grade lower than a C is considered a failing grade. In such circumstances, the student will need to repeat the course at Utah State or complete an equivalent course at an approved university and achieve a grade of C or higher. Students must maintain an overall grade point average of 3.0 to be eligible for graduation. Students who fail to do so will be placed on academic probation and will receive a letter from the School of Graduate Studies. Failure to maintain a GPA of 3.0 for two consecutive semesters may result in termination from the program and dismissal from the University. In the case of termination, reapplication is required to regain matriculation.
