Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services

School of Teacher Education and Leadership

The Master of Education in School Leadership is designed for classroom teachers and educators who want to become school and/or educational leaders. We use the Utah Effective Leadership Standards to prepare educators across the state of Utah to meet the demands placed on today’s instructional leaders. Coursework encompasses leadership and management with a specific focus on curriculum and instruction. The program prioritizes the effective use of data to inform successful school improvement for the diverse learners in our schools. Upon successful completion, graduates are recommended to the Utah State Board of Education for a license in School Leadership.

Program Delivery: Our program is considered a blended online program. Our program includes online courses that are fully online and asynchronous or web-broadcast (a combination of asynchronous and synchronous scheduled meetings). Course meetings occur no earlier than 4:30 pm and are currently delivered via web-broadcast (we use Zoom at USU). Students can complete the coursework anywhere they have WIFI and a device that is supported by Zoom and Canvas. Our students and faculty are located all throughout the state of Utah.

Internship: Students are expected to accomplish a series of experiences as part of this more competency-based approach for their intership. Students are required to select both elementary and secondary internship sites to complete the competencies included in the Utah Effective Leadership Standards. Students are asked to find their own internship sites/mentor principals, assistance is provided if needed. Many students use their current school of employment as one of these sites.
