About This Degree
The BFA is a professional degree requiring above-average accomplishment in art. Students must first apply and be accepted to a specific emphasis area.
Only students demonstrating considerable promise will be accepted for this more demanding professional degree program. This degree requires 78 semester credits in Art courses, leaving 42 credits to fulfill all other General Education and University Studies requirements.
This degree fulfills the requirements for entrance into graduate schools of art.

Minimum University Requirements
Admission Requirements for this Program
- New freshmen must be admitted to USU in Good Standing as Pre-Art or Pre-ID.
- Transfer students from other institutions or other programs at USU are admitted with a 2.75 GPA. Students must also pass a competitive portfolio review. Space is limited. See department website for more information.
Additional Requirements
A cumulative GPA of 2.75 is required for the BFA degree. A grade of B- or better is required in all art (ART) and art history (ARTH) classes. A grade of C or better is required in CHEM 1010 or CHEM 1110 and GEO 1010 or GEO 1110 classes. Courses for the major may not be taken on a pass/fail basis, except ART 2700 and ART 4915 .
