About This Degree

A physical education/coaching minor offers courses that will complement your degree and give you opportunities to learn about Anatomy, Exercise Physiology, Fitness, as well as better ways to coach team sports. The minor can be adjusted to best fit teaching majors or non-teaching majors.

Core Minor Requirements (35-37 total credits)

This minor cannot be used alone for teaching licensure unless the student has a teaching major. Please consult with the academic advisor for more information about this.

The minor requires a 2.0 overall GPA to declare. Students must also have a 2.0 overall GPA to receive this minor upon graduation with a bachelor’s degree. Students who intend to use this minor with the Secondary Teaching Education Program (STEP) must have a C or better in minor courses.

Complete three courses from the following:

KIN 2100 - Skills 1 (Swimming, Volleyball, Football) 1 credit(s)
KIN 2200 - Skills 2 (Lifetime Activities) 1 credit(s)
KIN 2300 - Skills 3 (Softball, Basketball, Soccer) 1 credit(s)
KIN 2400 - Skills 4 (Tennis, Badminton, Track and Field) 1 credit(s)
KIN 2500 - Skills 5 (Dance Activities) 1 credit(s)
OR advisor approved PE dance or yoga class

Required Prerequisites (16-18 required credits)

Complete the following. BIOL 2320 and BIOL 2420 must be completed before taking KIN 4100 .

BIOL 2320 - Human Anatomy 4 credit(s) and
BIOL 2420 - Human Physiology 4 credit(s)
HEP 2000 - First Aid and Emergency Care 2 credit(s) or First Aid and CPR certification
KIN 3000 - Principles of Fitness 3 credit(s) or PE 3000 Dynamic Fitness (choose either KIN 3000 or PE 3000 )
KIN 2000 - Introduction to Kinesiology 2 credit(s)
NDFS 1020 - Science and Application of Human Nutrition (BLS) 3 credit(s)

Professional Foundation (10 credits required)

Complete all the following:

KIN 2050 - Sport Rules and Regulations of the Utah High School Athletic Association 1 credit(s)
KIN 4100 - Exercise Physiology 4 credit(s)
KIN 4350 - Administration and Classroom Management of Physical Education 2 credit(s)
