Minimum University Requirements
Admission Requirements For This Program
- New freshmen must be admitted to USU in Good Standing.
- 2.5 GPA within all English courses (other than ENGL 1010 , ENGL 2010 , CLEP, AP, etc.); 2.5 USU cumulative GPA (including courses taken for another USU major); 2.5 career total GPA (including transfer credits) for new transfer students
Major Requirements (42 credits)
- Students may set up an internship that combines their academic skills with their professional interests. This program allows up to three credits of internship.
- The General English option is designed for Statewide Campus students as an alternative to the English Teaching emphasis. Logan Campus students should select one of the four emphases available to them.
- Minimum GPA for Graduation: 2.75 within major courses; 2.0 USU cumulative; 2.0 career total
- Minimum Grade Accepted: C within major courses (no grades of pass/fail)
- Number of required credits: 42
- Credits in Residence: Students must complete 21 credits of major-applicable coursework at Utah State University.

English Major Core (9 credits)
ENGL 2600 is required. Students may fulfill the rest of the core credits from the following courses.
B. Craft Courses (6 credits)
Students develop specific skills, competencies, and points of view needed by professionals in the fields of creative writing, teaching, and/or literary studies. Select two courses from the following list.
C. Context Courses (6 credits)
Students learn to analyze and critically evaluate ideas, arguments, and points of view that inform the production and interpretation of literature and cultural works. Select two courses from the following list.
D. Community Courses (6 credits)
Students gain a broader understanding and appreciation of intellectual-cultural activity (music, science, literature, etc.) in relation to specific communities. Select two courses from the following list.
Open Electives (15 credits)
Students may select any 3000 or 4000 level ENGL or TCR courses for elective credit, including the open electives listed below.
