Digital Writing and Publication - Certificate of Proficiency

About this Degree: 

This certificate provides students with the opportunity to work across the fields of creative writing, technical communication, and journalism to acquire the tools and the knowledge to make intentional choices in language and presentation.

The certificate draws on three areas in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, specifically Journalism and Communication (JCOM), Technical Communication and Rhetoric (TCR), and Creative Writing (CW). Students are required to complete 18 credits, including nine credits from the core classes, with one core class from each area: Journalism and Communication (JCOM), Technical Communication and Rhetoric (TCR), and Creative Writing (CW).

Students must earn a grade of C or better in courses they are counting toward the certificate and must maintain a 2.75 GPA or better in certificate courses.

Core Courses (9 credits)


Students are required to complete nine credits from the core classes, with one core class from each area: Journalism and Communication (JCOM), Technical Communication and Rhetoric (TCR), and Creative Writing (CW).

Elective Courses (9 credits)


Students must take nine additional credits from either core or elective courses in three areas. Students may count a three-credit internship as part of those nine additional credits. Whether the additional nine credits include an internship or not, the credits must come from at least two of the three areas.
