Global Peacebuilding - Certificate


The certificate provides focus on multidisciplinary academic understanding of the historical and contemporary causes of global conflict and efforts to create peace, while building practical skills in conflict resolution, mediation, and other forms of peacebuilding praxis. 

Global Peacebuilding Certificate Requirements (21 credits)


  • Minimum GPA for Admissions: 2.5
  • Cumulative Minimum GPA in Certificate Coursework for Graduation: 2.5
  • Cumulative Number of Required Credits: 21
  • Courses may not be taken on a pass/fail basis except for those courses which are only taught pass/fail.

Upper-Division Requirements


Students must complete upper-division courses from each of the two areas (A, and B) below for a total of 15 credits. 

Area A. Global Conflict, Peace and Human Rights (6 credits required)


Students must complete 6 credits of coursework from the following list of courses:

Area B. Peacebuilding Skills and Career Development (9 credits required)


Students must take 9 credits in this area.

All students must take: 

**Please note that with advisor’s approval, students may use one course not listed here to satisfy up to 3 credits of this requirement if undertaken as part of an HPI-approved study abroad experiential learning opportunity.
