Auditing Classes

Auditing Classes

Students

Admitted students may request to register for a course as an auditor. Auditing is dependent on course capacity, resource availability, and instructor approval. Audited courses receive no credit or grade points on the transcript. Regular tuition and course fee(s) will be assessed when auditing a course.

Students are not permitted to register as an auditor prior to the first day of classes for any given semester. At no future time after a course is approved to be audited may a student request to receive credit for the course, other than by officially retaking the course and completing the required course work.

The deadline for audit requests is the Adding Classes deadline, which also coincides with the Last Day to Drop without Notation on Transcript deadline. Any students who drops their course after this deadline will receive a W (withdrawal) grade and is not allowed to continue to audit the course.

House Bill 60

House Bill 60 (1977) permits Utah residents 62 years of age or older to audit regular university classes. However, course capacity in many courses may be limited. Classes that are at full capacity at the time of an audit request may not be audited. Credit seeking and tuition paying students have priority in the registration process.

A flat fee of $10 per semester, plus any course fee(s) or special fee(s) that may be associated with the course, is charged for House Bill 60 (1977) students. House Bill 60 (1977) audit requests are not available to submit until the first day of the class of the course.

Utah State Employees

Utah State (USU) employees should refer to USU policy 350 2.5 regarding eligibility for the tuition benefit to audit a course at no cost, except for any course fee(s) or special fees(s) associated with the audited course.
