NOTES: The highest math requirement for this degree is the Quantitative Literacy (QL)  of the student’s choice, although MATH 1050: College Algebra (QL)  is recommended.

 

Admissions Requirements

Major Expectations: Students are expected to develop proper attitudes, habits, work standards and professionalism to move on to graduate studies or directly into the professional world of theatre.

Admission Requirements: Students are admitted through separate application, portfolio review, and interview with program faculty. Acceptance is competitive and not guaranteed.

 

Minimum Grade Accepted: B- in all courses for major

Departmental Requirements:

  • Freshman and sophomore students usher for each department production they are not involved in as actor or run crew.
  • Attend production strikes as assigned. Strike crew calls are posted during performance week.

Required Theatre Arts Core Courses (21 credits)


Required Theatre Arts courses for all emphases and concentrations in the Department of Theatre Arts except those with an Acting emphasis. Acting students have a slight modification in their required core.

Theatre Practicum Requirement (6 credits)


  • 1 Take a total of 6 credits of production practicum.
  • Note: Students may take Run Crew before completing THEA 1513  and THEA 2203  

    • Register for Practicum in the following areas:  
      • Costume (1 credit)
      • Lighting/Sound (1 credit)
      • Paint & Props (1 credit)
      • Scenic (1 credit)
      • Run Crew (1 credit)

Required Production Assignments (9 credits)


All design/tech students apply for production assignments in December/January for the following academic year. Assignments are made by the design/tech faculty. These assignments are in addition to the practicum requirement (THEA 2555 ) and are completed outside of practicum work hours.

  • 1 (3 credits required)
  • Students complete a total of 3 projects. Working with their advisor, students choose from the following options based on their interests: Board Op, Spot Op, Prop Assistant, Paint Assistant, Asst. Master Electrician.

  • 2 (6 credits required)
  • Students complete a total of 3 assignments. Working with their advisor, students choose from the following options based on their interests: Master Electrician, Audio Engineer, Asst. Stage Manager, Asst. Technical Director, Design Assistant, Prop Master, Scenic Charge.
