Please note, in order to be licensed by the State of Utah, students must complete STEP requirements in addition to major requirements. All major content courses and teacher education courses require a grade of C or better.

Major Requirements (67-76 total credits)
- Program Admission Requirements: 2.75 overall GPA
- STEP Admission Requirements: 3.0 overall GPA
- Program Graduation Requirements: 3.0 overall GPA in STEP; 3.0 overall GPA
- Major content coursework (KIN) requires a grade of C or better. Coursework may not be taken for a pass/fail grade, except KIN 4300 and KIN 5630 .
Prerequisites (12-21 credits)
Note: These courses are prerequisite for certain courses in the emphasis but do not have to be completed before admission to the major. A complete description of course prerequisites can be found in the USU General Catalog or on Registration XE.

Secondary Teacher Education Preparation Requirements
- Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher, slightly lower GPA may be appealed.
- Three credits of English with a C+ grade or higher
- Three Breadth courses completed (minimum grades of C)
- Clearance of criminal background check
- Completion of a minor is no longer required for PE Teaching, but a minor or a teaching endorsement is strongly encouraged
- Completion of Application for Admission to Secondary Teacher Education
- All teacher education and major courses (PEP) require a grade of C or higher.
- PPAT Exam, a portfolio, and an interview are required before student teaching. PRAXIS exam may be required for minor, depending on the minor.

STEP - Professional Education Framework for Secondary Teacher Preparation (27 credits)
NOTE: Students are permitted to enroll in Level I teacher education professional core classes plus SPED 4000 prior to being admitted to the Teacher Education Program. All other teacher education courses can only be taken after being admitted. All teacher education courses and major content courses require a C grade or better. A 3.0 overall GPA must be maintained throughout the program.

Level I courses should be completed before Level II courses. This is especially true of SCED 5200 .
