College of Humanities and Social Sciences
Department of World Languages and Cultures
The TESOL certificate is designed to prepare USU students to teach English to students whose first language is not English. The courses in this certificate focus on the application of pedagogic, linguistic, and cultural knowledge in the second language classroom and adhere to the TESOL International Association standards. The certificate will enable students to more easily obtain language teaching positions overseas at reputable schools. It may also qualify students to teach in the U.S., but does NOT qualify certificate holders to teach in the Utah K-12 school system. Courses may not be taken on a pass/fail basis except for those courses which are only taught pass/fail.
