Objectives

The online Master of Public Health (MPH) with an emphasis in Health Education and Promotion (HEP) at Utah State University equips students with the foundational competencies necessary for the practice of public health, including focused training in health education and promotion. The HEP MPH program trains students to be leaders in the field of public health by advancing education, research, practice, and advocacy. MPH graduates are well prepared for careers in health care settings, academic institutions, local, state, and federal health agencies, private industry, worksite wellness, and non-profit organizations. Students receive training in program planning and evaluation, social determinates of health, health communication, quantitative and qualitative public health methods, health behavior, health policy, leadership, and global health. Students also complete integrative, interprofessional, and applied learning experiences outside of the classroom to demonstrate mastery of public health competencies. The fully online HEP MPH is available on a part-time or full-time basis.

Admission Requirements

Admission requirements can be found at the USU School of Graduate Studies  (apply at rgs.usu.edu/graduateschool/apply/). Students are expected to be admitted to the program as matriculated students before taking coursework leading to the degree.

HEP 6020 Pre-test


HEP MPH students are required to pass the pre-test prior to registering for HEP 6020 . Students should take the pre-test within the first two semester of starting the degree.

GPA and Credit Requirements


  • All courses require a grade of C or better and students must maintain an overall GPA of 3. 0 or higher.
  • The HEP MPH degree program requires a minimum of 45 credits. A minimum of 42 credits is required for students who have completed an undergraduate public health degree from a CEPH accredited undergraduate program and students are not required to take HEP 6050 . Students have 6 calendar years to complete all degree requirements.
