Graduate Program

Objectives

The Utah State MBA at the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business is an interdepartmental program, administered by Utah State University’s Huntsman School of Business, which is designed to train students to lead, manage, and improve business performance. Utah State MBA students know how to commercialize profitable ideas quickly, cheaply, and successfully. They possess the know-how to improve existing businesses and create new businesses and are armed with cutting-edge intelligence and analytic tools to gain a deeper and clearer understanding of both domestic and global markets, competition, and customers. The MBA program creates leaders who possess a principle-based philosophy of entrepreneurial excellence who can add value to an organization from the first day on the job. It is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The central mission of the MBA program is to:

1. Provide students with a relevant and rigorous background in business, increase student problem-solving and critical analysis skills, and develop the next generation of business leaders.

2. Provide focused education and experiences in specific areas of business (leadership or value creation) to improve student employability.

Degree Requirements

Students are held responsible for meeting requirements as outlined below. It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of all requirements and initiate the resolution of apparent inconsistencies.

  • ​​​​​Degree Verification

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university or a similarly recognized international university is required for admission to and completion of a graduate program.

  • Overall Graduate GPA at least 3.0 and no grades of C- or lower;

Graduate students are required to maintain at least a 3.0 GPA for degree-program courses. Grades of C- or lower will not be accepted for a graduate degree.

  • Coursework Validity

Coursework over eight years old at the time of degree completion may not be used for a graduate degree unless it is revalidated.

  • USU Residency Requirement

At least 27-semester credits for a master’s degree must be from a committee-approved and a School of Graduate Studies-approved Program of Study from Utah State University.

  • Business Prerequisites

In order to enhance the probability of student success in the USU MBA program, all candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the required prep courses: Accounting, Excel, and Finance. Students will meet with an MBA advisor to determine options for completion of the prep courses. Students are able to take a no-cost challenge exam and test out of the prep course.

Executive & Online MBA Programs


The Utah State University Executive MBA program is offered for working professionals at several convenient locations throughout the state of Utah and southern Idaho. It is a 36-credit program. Classes are taught in evening courses in face-to-face and broadcast formats. Admission information and deadlines for the Executive MBA programs can be found on the MBA website at utahstatemba.com.

Created with working professionals in mind, the Utah State University Online MBA program combines courses taught by seasoned professors with real-world experience. This 36-credit program allows students to complete their online MBA degree in one or two years. Strategic and Global Vision (9 credits)

  • Global Excursion (Optional): The Utah State MBA understands that in order for students to become tomorrow’s business leaders, they must gain knowledge, experience, and technical skills that allow them to operate successfully within the context of a global business environment. The Huntsman School is committed to providing its students with experiences that prepare them to be effective and influential business professionals as well as leaders. A graduate study tour is one of the best experiences any student can have that will set them on a course of success.

Shingo Specialization (9 Credits)


The Shingo Specialization is an online program providing an understanding of the Shingo Model™ and the principles necessary to make operational excellence sustainable.

Shingo Workshops: In this course, students will complete the following Shingo Workshops: DISCOVER EXCELLENCE, SYSTEMS DESIGN, CULTURAL ENABLERS, CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT, and ENTERPRISE ALIGNMENT. All workshops will be completed in a real-time virtual environment alongside working professionals. For more information regarding each workshop, please visit shingo.org/education.

Shingo Project: In this course, students will work directly with a mentor to design or create a system guided by the Shingo Model™ as they complete the capstone BUILD EXCELLENCE workshop. The workshop helps to develop a structured approach to execute a cultural transformation. It builds upon a foundation of principles, using tools that already exist within many organizations. It teaches you how to build systems that drive behavior which will consistently deliver desired results. The project is designed to be implemented at your current place of employment. If this is not an option, special arrangements may be accommodated.

Leadership Specialization (9 credits)


This specialization focuses on developing impactful, innovative, and inclusive leaders who can negotiate strategic agreements and influence stakeholders.

Business Analytics Specialization (9 Credits)


The competencies learned in the Business Analytics specialization focus upon business intelligence, information systems strategy, and database design and mining.

Strategic Business Development and Venturing Specialization (9 Credits)


The Strategic Business Development and Venturing Specialization specialization focuses on strategy and venturing skills which are tremendous assets to companies which want managers capable of identifying and leading growth strategies.

Finance Specialization (9 Credits) - NOT CURRENTLY OFFERED


This specialization in Finance focuses on financial management, investment analysis, and strategic decision-making within the corporate and financial sectors.
