Major Requirements

  • An overall GPA of 3.0 is required both for admission and graduation in the emphasis.
  • Coursework for the major may not be taken pass/fail, except KIN 4250 .
  • A minimum C or better grade is not enforced in the major coursework, but is strongly recommended to achieve to meet minimum grade requirements commonly required for physical therapy programs.

I. Prerequisites (15-16 credits)

These courses are prerequisites for certain courses in the emphasis, but do not have to be completed before admission into the major.

III. Professional Development (30-33 credits)

Biology (must complete at least 4 credits, including lab)

It is the student’s responsibility to determine which biology courses are required for the particular graduate schools they are interested in attending. Many schools require both BIOL 1610 /BIOL 1615   AND BIOL 1620 /BIOL 1625 .

Chemistry (10 credits required)

Mathematics (2-4 credits) Choose one course.

The math requirement in the KHS PrePT program is required for physics courses. Thus, any of the following will suffice. However, it is the student’s responsibility to determine which math course(s) may be required for the specific PT schools they intend to apply to.

MATH 1100  is generally required for physical therapy school. Students who are interested in medical school should take MATH 1060  together with MATH 1210 . Please note that AP Calculus credit is generally not acceptable for physical therapy school and medical school.

Statistics (3-4 credits) Choose one course.

Advanced Placement Statistics is generally not acceptable for physical therapy school or medical school. If students have AP Statistics credit, they should consult with their advisor and check with the schools they will be applying to.

Physics (8 credits)

Psychology (3 credits) Choose one course.

Graduation Requirements

Requirements for graduation include: 3.0 overall GPA, 120 total credits, including 40 upper-division credits.

NOTE: It is the student’s responsibility to check with physical therapy schools concerning courses required for admission. Completion of Utah State University’s Department of KHS Pre-Physical Therapy emphasis will not guarantee admission into physical therapy school.
