The Master’s degree in Communication Studies is a face-to-face program focused on understanding communication in various contexts including (but not limited to) interpersonal, health settings, the political sphere, intercultural settings, and social movements. Students will receive training in quantitative, qualitative, and rhetorical research methods. In addition to gaining a broad understanding of communication, graduates will develop expertise in an area (or multiple areas) of their choosing via course papers and a final thesis or professional project. Our Master’s program prepares graduates for the workforce or PhD programs.

In addition to the application requirements listed on the School of Graduate Studies page, the following are required:

  • Resume
  • Scholarly writing sample
  • Statement of Purpose (1000-word limit)
    • Why are you interested in a Master’s degree in Communication Studies? What topic areas are you interested in? Why are you interested in these topics? Which faculty do you think you might be interested in working with and why? 
  • Minimum GPA of 3.2

The application deadline is February 15th.

 

This degree will:

  • Provide students with a broad understanding of communication as well as opportunities to specialize.

  • Prepare students for careers that highly value communication knowledge and skills.

  • Offer excellent opportunities for both research and teaching.
