International Business - Institutional Certificate of Proficiency

The International Business Institutional Certificate of Proficiency (IBCP) provides an opportunity for all Utah State University students to receive credentialing indicating the acquisition and development of skills in international business. This is intended to complement any major and serve as a signal to potential employers of competency and understanding of factors that affect competing in the international arena. Earning the IBCP requires the completion of three courses and an academic international experience.

(1) Students Must Complete This Required Course:

This course counts towards the elective course requirement for all Huntsman Business School major requirements. It also counts towards the Depth Social Science (DSS) Requirement for the University Studies (General Education) requirements.

(2) Students Must Complete One Course From The Following Menu:

Courses with an * have a prerequisite requirement.

(3) Students Must Complete One Course From The Following Menu:

Students must complete an additional course from the (2) menu or the following menu. Courses outside the HSB from partner departments are selected and approved by both the HSB and the respective department. There is also an “as approved” option for students that can present a relevant globally focused course for consideration to meet this requirement. Examples of courses outside the HSB that qualify to complete the third course requirement are below. Many of these courses also count towards certain General Education requirements.

(4) International Academic Experience Requirement

Students must complete an international academic experience. These include Huntsman’s Global Learning Experiences (including a Huntsman Scholar Experience), SEED Experience (Small Enterprise Education and Development), a full study abroad, a service learning, or other relevant international academic experiences offered at USU or “as approved”. This requirement is not required to have been completed through the Huntsman School of Business. A list of approved experiences will be developed and students completing one of these will automatically satisfy this requirement. There is also an “as approved” option for students who can show the completion of a relevant international academic experience/courses that would meet the criteria of providing adequate global perspective and competency. The general criterion is that this experience last at least one week. It would be preferable to have the length requirement be longer, but many USU trips are offered over spring break and many students, such as athletes, may have limited opportunities to pursue longer experiences.
