About this Degree

Civil engineers plan, design, construct, and maintain public works, such as roads, bridges, and harbors. While they focus on building, they also look at the environmental impact of the structure and the structure’s stability in the case of environmental hazards, such as earthquakes and hurricanes.

Admission Requirements for this Program

Required for admission to the pre-professional program:

  • New freshmen: Admitted to USU in Good Standing

    • Minimum 3.0 High School GPA, 23 ACT, 24 or higher Math ACT and 73 Admission Index.

  • Transfer students from other institutions or other programs at USU:

    • Completion of MATH 1210 with a C- or better

    • 12 credits of science, engineering, and math coursework with a 2.7 GPA or better

    • No grades less than C-

Required for admission to the professional program:

  • Have an institution GPA of 2.5 or higher in the pre-professional courses (denoted with an * in the suggested degree map).

  • Pass all of the courses in the pre-professional program with a C- or better (denoted with an * in the suggested degree map).
