About this Degree

In the French program students develop speaking, listening, reading, and writing proficiency skills in French. Students also develop durable skills for the global workplace, including cultural competence, analytical skills, interpretive skills, communication skills, professional presentation and interview skills, translation skills, and critical thinking skills. Students explore the language, cultures, literatures, traditions, and perspectives of francophone countries around the world. They also have an option to participate in study abroad programs in France, where they may gain further proficiency in French language and francophone cultures.

French Teaching Emphasis: This emphasis is offered for students who wish to obtain licensure to teach in secondary schools. This emphasis includes courses in linguistics, francophone cultures, oral and written communication, the interaction of language and society, and teaching methodologies. The teaching emphasis offers practical job skills training in tutoring and teaching French.

Bachelor of Arts Degree Requirement

In addition to completion of the requirements for a bachelor’s degree, a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree signifies proficiency in one or more foreign languages. See Minimum University Requirements (Bachelor's Degree) requirement for details.

Admission Requirements for this Program

  • New freshmen must be admitted to USU in Good Standing.

  • Transfer students from other institutions or other programs at USU must have a 2.50 GPA.
