About this Degree
The MS program in Mathematics primarily prepares students for doctoral programs in pure and applied mathematics and statistics, and secondarily for careers in college teaching and industrial jobs. MS Math students conduct research in areas including differential geometry, computer-aided algebra and mathematical physics, mathematical ecology, dynamical systems and graph theory.
Admission Requirements for this Program
Admission requirements can be found on the USU School of Graduate Studies website (https://gradschool.usu.edu/admissions/policies). Applicants are also expected to have a GPA in math/stat coursework of at least 3.5. Applicants must submit either Official GRE scores (GRE-Q at least 70th percentile, GRE-V of at least 40th percentile) or a research portfolio, consisting of (1) a research statement of no more than 2 pages including references, and (2) (optional) supplemental materials, such as abstracts, paper summaries, of no more than 3 pages. Papers can be provided in the form of web pages, DOIs, or arXiv preprints, but not the full documents.
