Federal Gainful Employment Information
The Basic Corrections Officer program builds upon skills and knowledge gained in the Special Function Officer program and provides basic training required for employment in the field of corrections. Areas of study include constitutional and correctional law, offender supervision strategies, critical incident responses, and other correctional-related topics.
Admission Requirements for this Program
Be a United States citizen; a United States National; or, for at least five (5) years continuous, be a legal permanent resident (LPR).
Be at least 19 years of age at the time of certification as a special function officer.
Be a high school graduate or furnish evidence of successful completion of an examination indicating an equivalent achievement.
Pass the physical fitness test as outlined by POST and the academy director.
Not convicted of a crime for which the applicant could have been punished by imprisonment in a federal penitentiary or by imprisonment in the penitentiary of this or another state.
Demonstrated good moral character, as determined by a background investigation; and
Be free of any physical, emotional, or mental condition that might adversely affect the performance of the applicant’s duties as a peace officer.
An application for admission to a peace officer training program shall be accompanied by a criminal history background check of local, state, and national criminal history files and a background investigation. A fee of $50 shall be paid at the time of fingerprinting to cover the costs of the background check and investigation. See advisor for details.
