Course Learning Outcomes

1. Identify and describe major companion animal breeds, their characteristics, and normal patterns of growth, development, and behavior.
2. Demonstrate humane and safe techniques for handling, restraining, and housing companion animals, applying principles of welfare and facility management.
3. Perform and interpret comprehensive physical examinations, distinguishing between normal and abnormal clinical findings, and accurately communicating results.
4. Explain fundamental anatomical and physiological differences among companion species and how these influence health, care, and welfare.
5. Identify and discuss the etiology, clinical signs, prevention, and treatment of common infectious and noninfectious diseases in dogs and cats, including relevant zoonotic concerns.
6. Evaluate nutritional requirements and body condition in companion animals and formulate basic feeding or dietary management plans to promote optimal health.
