Course Learning Outcomes

1. Explain the anatomy, physiology, and reproductive endocrinology in mares across seasonal and cyclic phases.
2. Apply knowledge of endocrine and behavioral cues to manage breeding cycles and optimize conception rates.
3. Explain how to manipulate the estrous cycle to optimize breeding outcomes.
4. Demonstrate competency in handling broodmares for reproductive examinations and procedures, assist the veterinarian during examinations and artificial insemination, and observe and interpret transrectal ultrasonography images to identify and correlate findings with stages of the estrous cycle.
5. Interpret breeding records, reproductive exams, and pregnancy detection data to support clinical decision-making.
6. Prepare and manage mares for breeding, pregnancy, foaling, and postpartum recovery using industry-standard protocols.
7. Identify and explain common causes of subfertility and infertility in mares.
