Course Learning Outcomes
1. Explain principles of sustainable and regenerative agricultural systems as they relate to livestock production, including ecological, economic, and social dimensions informed by both global frameworks and regional priorities for the Intermountain West.
2. Analyze animal production systems using ecological concepts such as biodiversity, nutrient cycling, grazing ecology, and ecosystem function.
3. Evaluate ranch and farm management strategies for environmental stewardship, resource use efficiency, and long-term system resilience.
4. Assess sustainability challenges and trade-offs in livestock systems, including land use, water resources, grazing pressure, climate impacts, and socio-economic constraints.
5. Develop evidence-based recommendations for improving the sustainability and resilience of livestock-based agricultural operations using integrative systems thinking.
