Aviation TechnologyCollege of Agriculture & Natural Resources

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will explain requirements for an aircraft dispatcher certificate and the role of dispatchers in air carriers. Students will prepare comprehensive flight plans, load manifests, takeoff data, and dispatch releases for flights.

  2. Students will understand basic weather theory, regional weather types, and atmospheric characteristics. Analyze and apply aviation weather information in flight planning, including pressure, wind, clouds, and hazards. Analyze weather information for proposed flight routes and destination airports, determining alternate airport requirements. Identify and apply appropriate performance adjustments related to weather hazards. Discuss weather hazards like crosswinds, turbulence, icing, thunderstorms, and volcanic ash with proficiency.

  3. Students will comprehend aircraft flight principles, performance limitations, and their implications. Utilize aircraft performance data for takeoff, climb, cruise, and landing, considering weather conditions and weight balance.

  4. Students will demonstrate knowledge of navigation charts, airborne instruments, and various navigation systems. Understand navigation procedures, special operations, and time/location references relevant to flight planning.
Implement dispatcher resource management procedures and human factors in decision-making. Demonstrate situational awareness, contingency planning, and error management to prevent accidents/incidents.
