Course Learning Outcomes

1. Identify definitions and common misconceptions with sustainability.
2. Communicate about sustainability issues from an integrated systems-level perspective, effectively answering questions such as: “What are the barriers to environmental behavior?” and “How can we motivate people to act environmentally?”
3. Conduct a strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) analysis and a barrier-benefit analysis in planning an effective sustainability campaign.
4. Use theoretical frameworks (such as Diffusion of Innovations) and marketing techniques (such as prompts and commitment) to design comprehensive communication campaigns to change behavior.
5. Consult with a community partner to develop and implement an environmental behavior change campaign, applying the objectives listed above.
