Course Learning Outcomes

1. Recognize Earth as a system of interrelated processes, cycles, and feedbacks
2. Learn how Earth formed, its age, and interior structure
3. Investigate the formation of major mineral and rock types and their association to plate tectonic setting
4. Define the principles of geologic time, numerical dating, and reconstructing geologic history
5. Know the principles of Plate Tectonics, including faults and earthquakes, and associated landforms
6. Recognize the pathways, major processes, and landforms associated with surface water and groundwater resources
7. Relate basic principles of Earth’s climate system to past and ongoing climate changes
8. Learn the geologic context of mineral and energy resources
9. Explore geoscientist’s role in society and geoscience careers
