Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Discuss the burden of disease in various regions of the world and the variations in disease incidence and prevalence both within and across countries and how the disease burden can be addressed in effective ways.

  2. Discuss the multi-directional links between health and social and economic factors.

  3. Identify and contrast the impact of political, socio-cultural, educational, economic, and environmental systems in both developed and developing nations in relation to health status.

  4. Critically discuss the influence of poverty, educational attainment, cultural traditions, and the status of women on the health of diverse populations.

  5. Describe how globalization has changed the patterns of the spread of disease and the methods needed to control disease.

  6. Identify and critically discuss issues in the organization and delivery of public health and health care services and methods to address global health disparities and issues based on course concepts. Consider cost, efficacy, and sustainability of solutions.

  7. Outline the determinants of health and risk factors for conditions of importance to global health.
