Course Learning Outcomes

1. Understand the history and relevance of community and public health.
2. Identify the structure and function of public and community health-related organizations
3. Identify a philosophy of community and public health. 
4. Apply demographic and epidemiological skills in the investigation, prevention and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases.
5. Identify how health is affected by air, water, food and the communities where people live.
6. Describe how community and public health efforts help to manage environmental pollutants, hazards and wastes.
7. Identify how health promotion planning and implementation is applied in communities.
8. Describe what a well-designed school health program looks like and does.
9. Distinguish between the different needs of specific populations and identify different ways of addressing those needs.
10. Identify and describe some of the health disparities that exist between race and ethnic groups and how they can be addressed.
11. Identify issues related to mental health & Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATOD).
12. Describe the organization and characteristics of the U.S. healthcare system(s) and how that differs from that of other countries.
