Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply leadership concepts, skills, and decision-making in the provision of high-quality nursing care, health care team coordination, and oversight and accountability for care delivery in a variety of settings.

  2. Incorporate holistic concepts into nursing leadership and management: human resources, cost-effectiveness, policy, power, motivation, decision-making, quality improvement, and change.

  3. Utilize concepts from leadership and management theories and the nursing process to ensure safe, quality care of clients and client systems.

  4. Use effective communication techniques, negotiation, conflict resolution, team building and collaborative strategies to produce positive working relationships.

  5. Utilize knowledge of legal and ethical issues affecting nurse leaders and managers within a health care system.

  6. Discuss and apply theories of leadership and management.

  7. Provide leadership for education, health promotion, and disease prevention efforts in a variety of settings.

  8. Apply caring and respectful advocacy to the role of nurse leader and manager.
